Melissa Barrera, a Mexican actress, has been withdrawn from the planned new Scream-7 film because she made a tweet on social media opposing Israel’s assault on Hamas in Gaza.
In a message published on her Instagram on November 22, 2023, actress Barrera stated that she intends to “continue speaking out for those in need and advocating for peace and security, human rights and freedom.”
Spyglass said that the actress had been eliminated from Scream 7 owing to anti-Semitic social media remarks. According to the firm, we have zero tolerance for anti-Semitism or incitement of hatred in any form.
Melissa Barrera, 33, has starred in the hit murder mystery and slasher franchise’s two most recent films – Scream – released in 2022 – and Scream VI, which arrived earlier this year. He played the role of Sam Carpenter in both films. Scream 7 is to be directed by Christopher Landon, who reportedly commented on Barrera’s exit in a post on X that has since been deleted.
According to Variety magazine, he wrote: “Everything sucks. Stop yelling. It wasn’t my decision.”
American star Melissa Barrera has been nominated for an Oscar five times and won Best Actress for her performance in Dead Man Walking in 1996.
Barrera has given stellar performances in the films Thelma & Louise, The Client, and Bull Durham.
Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon, 77, has also been dropped by a Hollywood company over her comments about the Israel-Hamas war. Sarandon was dropped by United Talent Agency after making comments at a pro-Palestinian rally in New York on November 17, 2023.
