Narges Mohammadi Career

She began her career in 2003 when she joined the Defenders of Human Rights Center. She was accused of “acting against the national security, membership in the DHRC, and propaganda against the regime” in July 2011 and was subsequently found guilty.

Narges Mohammadi was imprisoned for the first time in 1998 for criticizing the Iranian regime and spent a year in prison. She was summoned to the Islamic Revolutionary Court in April 2010 for her participation in the DHRC. She was freed on $50,000 bond for a short time before being caught again and held at Evin prison. Mohammadi’s health deteriorated while in detention, and she acquired an epilepsy-like illness that caused her to lose muscular control on a regular basis.
